“Just a little something I’ve been thinking about…”
Well, there’s you. And then… you again. And you know I started to think about something else for a moment, but then you jumped back in. Then a little about Hawaii, then me and you in Hawaii. Then I was thinking about surfing waves in Hawaii… with you. Then I’ve been thinking I can’t wait to get this graphic design company going, and hopefully t-shirts too, so me… and you, can move to Hawaii. And then I was thinking about a ring, for you. And I was thinking… me and you, we could live the rest of our lives together happily ever after. And I’ve also been thinking… I totally love you.
Yours,
David
David wrote this to me during the Summer of 2005, just a few months shy of when he proposed to me. I love looking back and reading all the fun notes that we use to write each other.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing women out there! These are a few old images that I always cherished of my mother. I found these when I was younger and stashed these away in my room, looking at them often as I was growing up.

Notre Dame | Places of Worship in France | Documentary Photographer
Many would never consider me to be a religious person by nature, but I find myself to be incredibly spiritual. One of the things that attracts me to Hawaii and why we live here is the accessibility one has to nature. I feel so much closer to the land, sea, and Spirit. Energy seems to flow so naturally through the Hawaiian islands.
One of my favorite things to do whenever I travel abroad is to visit various places of Worship from all cultures. I am in awe of Temples, Mosques, Churches, and ruins. I love them all and am always amazed that regardless of the religion, these places are always a place of reflection and peace.
It would be a natural reaction to assume that these images are of a man and his beloved dog. On the contrary, this is different.
Meet Danny and Puppet. Danny one day was dropping off his laundry at a local dry cleaner in town. As he was dropping off his clothes, he couldn’t help but to notice the little noises coming from the back room. Over small talk, Danny soon came to learn that the owner, Jen, had her dog with her in the back room. Jen brought out her dog and introduced Puppet to Danny. This dog was a fire ball of energy, yearning to be released from the room to explore the world outside.
Even though Danny did not have a dog, it was clear that he was a dog lover. He asks if he can help by taking out Puppet for the day to let her burn off some steam. Jen laughed, half joking with a response of “You can have her!” I really love how Danny still laughs as he tells this story.
Although Danny did not adopt her, he has since been taking Puppet out almost every evening. They go to the dog park, hiking, and Puppet hangs out with Danny during the day at home with him after he gets off from work. They keep each other balanced and at peace.
“Puppet has pretty much saved my life,” Danny firmly believes. Puppet has seen Danny through a series of emotional and health struggles. I identify with this so much because no matter what I have gone through, my own dogs have always been a constant source of love and support in my home whenever I most needed it myself. Through our animals we can learn about unconditional love and the therapy that comes with that gift.
It is my hope that I may one day understand how to love so unconditionally.
My most sincere wish in life is to be a documentary photographer. People who know me well know that I grew up traveling ever since I came into the world. I was born in Thailand, grew up in Bangladesh, lived in France, Pakistan and America. At the age of 25, I now live in Hawaii where I am blessed to document amazing couples say their vows as they get married. My heart has never felt more at home anywhere else in the world, and as a wedding photographer here in Hawaii, I have never felt more proud for what I do.
As much as I love Hawaii, I still naturally have my travel jitters. I can’t help it: I was born into the lifestyle of a gypsy. I am captivated by my curiosities of the world with its vast cultures, traditions, tastes, smells and expressions.
It is my hope that when I have my own family one day, that I too, will have the opportunity to take my own children traveling all over the world so that they may experience a similar childhood as I have.
Over the next few blog posts, I am looking forward to sharing that part of myself with you by sharing images from my last trip to France. As cliche as France can be for many people, it is very significant for me because my family lives there and it is where a lot of my life changing events have evolved around.
New letterpress business card designs have arrived today in the mail. They arrived just in time for WPPI!
As many of you know, I have a big passion for not only photography but design as well. For the last few years, a lot of my energy went into Muku Studios with my husband, and we have been so blessed to touch so many hearts with Muku in the design community. We have met so many people… everyone from organizations, design legends, college and high school students, professors and even the child sitting quietly somewhere with their crayons. David and I remember every one of you. Your phone calls, emails, holiday cards, crayon drawings, and many treasured conversations over dinner.
As design still continues to capture my heart, it was only natural to unite that love with my photography business branding. I was so blessed to find Cari Miemiko at Miemiko Atelier on Oahu. We had the opportunity to catch up just last week over the phone, and from there we created these gorgeous business cards together.
When you believe in something and put your faith into it, beautiful things can happen with dedicated people working together. Surround yourself with those who believe in the same thing as you do, and you will be surprised at what you can accomplish together.
Be sure to contact Cari Miemiko at Miemiko Atelier for some letterpress love.
